5 Types of Auto Glass Damage

Auto glass can break from being hit directly with a hard object or due to cracks caused by severe changes in weather, freezing or other issues. But it will generally leave damage that results in your windshield or other window glass to needing to be repaired or replaced. Depending on the type of damage, the glass may be able to be saved, but in other cases your best option may be a brand new piece of glass. Of course, it also depends on the size and location of the damage to determine if it can be repaired.

This doesn't require much explanation, but a crack is a single, thin line that appears over the surface of the windshield. Depending on how long it is and where it is located, some cracks can be repaired with great success.

Star Break

A star break can looks like a star, generally with two or cracks projecting out from the center. This type of break can usually be repaired, but may still be slightly visible afterward.

Bullseye Break

These type of chips are often caused by a small rock hitting the windshield. They will appear as a small hole with a dark circle around it. They can usually be repaired, but the original spot where impact occurred may still be visible.

Partial Bullseye Break

These are also known as half moon chips and they look similar to bullseye breaks but are only a half circle. Because of the angle the damage likely occurred, they are difficult to be repaired, but they often can be.

Combo Break

These chips have multiple features of other types of breaks. Depending on their size and location and if they have any severe cracking that projects away from the center, they may be able to be replaced, but some damage would likely still be visible.
